Shelter is a collaborative, interactive installation work based on Barcelona artist Brooke Borg’s reinvention of the ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) to resolve difficult relationships within families. Shelter, a painted silk environment, stands as a metaphor for emotional shelter and a re-imagining of the ketubah. I invited people to write their hopes for a troubled relationship on a piece of paper, enter the Shelter and leave their wish in a pile of coal, the heart of the space. Their wishes for love, forgiveness and an end to loneliness make the space resonate with human desire.
